IMG_6824.JPG=The 61st Annual Capital District Key Club District Convention was held at the elegant Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia, March 19th -21st, 2010 with the largest attendance ever. Over 975 Key Clubbers, Kiwanians, advisors and guests came to share the fun and learning experiences of this Annual Leadership Conference at the spacious hotel complex. They have been the leadership team on every Key Club event. Joe presented Bill with the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation – Founder’s Society Award for his dedicated service. PG Bob Cressy represented the CDKF in the presentation reminding us that the funds raised for the Founder’s Society go directly to supporting our SLP organizations. IMG_6643.JPG=The first night’s Key Note presentation was by Patrick Maurer, a speaker and educator who was also a past Key Club president, Lieutenant Governor and Governor in California-Nevada-Hawaii District. An Arizona State University grad and holding San Jose State University teaching credentials, after teaching for four years he created PMaruer Communications, LLC. He speaks nationally on his life’s experiences and taking on leadership roles in organizations for your own development. IMG_6718.JPG=Saturday afternoon the Delegates Caucus’ are held where candidates for Capital District offices present their qualifications and answer questions from the floor for the positions of Key Club Governor, Treasurer, Secretary, Editor, and International Trustee to the club delegates. With over 900 Key Clubbers, multiple caucus rooms by divisions are lined up. Competition is strong and spirited. Alek Burkard, candidate for Treasurer from the Fishburne Military Academy addresses a caucus. He won! ALL competitors learn and grow by competing. The newly elected Key Club Governor is Rachel Slotter, from Division 15. Congratulations, Rachel to you and your team! This is the “Spirit Stick” award contest, too, with the loudest … well, screaming by a Division wins the “Spirit Stick” award. He has everyone’s, and we mean everyone’s respect, admiration and thanks for his service to Key Club and Kiwanis. Most of us have seen him at work with our Key Clubs from district and international conventions, to the K-Family Weekend, and as Zone Administrator, ALL at the same time. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and singing of our National Anthem. It was the proper way to open this weekend celebration. Good job!
