Now we’re ready for some FUN, education and fellowship! IMG_5100.JPG=A visit to Williamsburg would not be complete without an address by one of our Founding Fathers. Patrick Henry, elected Governor of the Virginia Commonwealth, portrayed by Richard Schumann, brought us back to the days of the bitter dispute between colonial Virginia and the British Crown. She offered many heart warming stories of how people and clubs reach out to our communities and youth by employing these “E’s”. Educate – put Kiwanis education in your meetings such as with member orientation programs. Engage – through communication. Show them that Kiwanis matters. Energy – share and inspire your SLP’s by working together on projects. Empower your members. Let them know when they do well. End on message – the Kiwanis message, not just on another ‘announcement’. This was inspiring, Jane. Sorry for a less ah high quality photo. IMG_5248.JPG=Now a “SPECIAL Tribute, Recognition and Thank You” was made to Ellis H. Stroup, the Capital District Secretary-Treasurer for almost thirty seven years! Wow! Thirty seven years! Ellis has been the underlying strength, font of knowledge for club officers and all leadership teams. I don’t know a governor who has not benefited form his advice and support, and occasional corrections, that Ellis could give. This was due to his vast accumulated experience, international contacts and his desire to have the Capital District always succeed. He has been and is greatly respected by his fellow district Secretary-Treasurers though out Kiwanis International. The Kiwanis Club of Eastern Branch put this short tribute to Ellis. It reads: “Now the REAL Fun begins. Congratulations and Happy Retirement. Relax and enjoy it. After 35 years, you’ve earned it.” 168.JPG=Thank you, Jane and Gus, for being with us and bringing so much excitement, spirit and enthusiasm to our 93rd Capital District Kiwanis Convention. Convention sites are almost always great vacation destination as ell. So, plan on it now. Remember, too we’ll have an international candidate in Jerry Peuler who will be running for International Vice President. We’ll need to show huge visible support so other districts will know “we are behind our candidate”. And as Linwood says, “there’s Kiwanis responsibilities … and there is FUN … and Bourbon Street.
