Town Center Club

by Nancy Pindur

The Town Center Kiwanis of Virginia Beach continues to keep a fast pace.

  • We began the month with our social at McCormick and Schmick's Seafood Restaurant to payback our fundraising sponsors. We always enjoy these events and had a great turn-out.
  • We continue to assist our People First group, which meets one Saturday per month near Town Center.
  • Several members attended an InterClub Breakfast with the Great Neck Club.
  • On the Third Thursday of the month several members participate with REACH headed by Diane Hotaling, and read to children at risk at Samaritan House in Virginia Beach.
  • We installed our newest member, Myera Oberndorf, this month. She is the spouse of another of our members, Roger.
  • March 24th is our annual state of Town Center membership recruiting luncheon meeting. The Hilton Garden in provided a menu of Spring Greens with pears, nuts and blue cheese, chicken cordon bleu with parmesan crème sauce and garlic mashed potatoes, green beans almondine and Key lime pie for dessert. Nearly 100 people attended.
  • The last week of March brought our annual Outer Banks social and golf weekend at Nags Head. Hosted by Jerry Collier members and spouses enjoyed conviviality away from Virginia Beach.
  • Our plans continue to solidify for our annual Golf Tournament coming May 19th. Tom Balen is busy getting gift certificates and prizes for our golfers.
  • Our April social outing will be at Max and Erma's restaurant in the town center area.
  • Our president, Scott Brinkman, has introduced a new fundraiser to the group that only involves shopping for groceries and/or gasoline and saving our receipts in order to get gift cards which members in turn, will give back to the club in the form of cash. This fundraising does not rely on good weather, as do our Neptune Fest and Race and Golf Tournament. It is our hope that eventually all members will participate and that this will be our BIGGEST fundraiser.
  • The Hampton Roads Regional Conference as attended by our president, Scott, on Saturday, March 27th.
