Kiwanis Learns about An Old Baltimore Custom
Pictured is John Iampieri, guest speaker at the Kiwanis Club's meeting on July 20th at Hall's in Ocean City, as he enlightened the membership about an old Baltimore Custom that started in 1913 in East Baltimore when a local grocer moved his produce inside his store in the summer heat and painted his screen door with art to let customers know it was inside. It caught on as locals wanted their screens painted too! And so, Screen Painting became popular. Today, John Iampieri, who reside in nearby Bishopville still teaches and makes the artwork even though screen doors on the fronts of homes have diminished. They custom still exists to a smaller degree, but it's beauty still speaks to the desires of some. Check out the website for Bella Designs at www.belladesignsonline.com or call 410-352-5695 to see how it looks.

KIWANIS: "THY WILL(S) BE DONE"
The Kiwanis guest speaker for the July 13th meeting at the Ocean Pines Community Hall was none other than Charlotte Cathell, Worcester County Register of Wills, pictured addressing her fellow Kiwanis members. Her message was most informative. If anything was stressed it had to be that having a will at any age is most important. Charlotte has been in her job for 13 years and has seen it all. So take care of obtaining a will, power of attorney, and an Advance Directive for health care in order to protect your interests and family. See www.registers.state.md.us for more information.
Kiwanis and Dancing
Every week Program and Speakers Chair, Graham Caldwell (aka Jack), arranges for speakers to address the club. Many of the speakers have affiliations with children as the goal of Kiwanis is "Serving the Children of the World" while others are related to the local community services and programs. On July 6th, at the weekly breakfast meeting in the Ocean Pines Community Hall, Fred Spurlock and his wife, Meg, are pictured demonstrating some of the ballroom dancing they teach at the classes held at the OP Community Hall for the Ocean Pines Recreation and Parks Department. Dancing is great activity for everyone.
