Gov. Jeffrey's Messageby Gov. Jeffrey Wolff Jen and I are expecting our second child at the end of July 2012 and we are overjoyed about that news! I start my message this month with this information because as parents eagerly anticipating the birth of a child, the ELIMINATE Project strikes particularly close to home for us. As parents and grandparents could you imagine any more devastating news than to learn that your newborn was stricken with neo-natal tetanus. You can't hold, speak or comfort the child in any way, because stimuli of any kind makes the baby even more uncomfortable as it endures painful convulsions that eventually lead to death. You are completely helpless to assist the child. But the real cruelty is that this never had to be. Unlike so many diseases we deal with, tetanus is perfectly preventable through a series of three vaccinations costing $1.80 in total and providing the mother and baby with immunity from the disease for ten years...more |
Battlefield Kiwanis and Wreaths Across Americaby Cliff Blasius, Jr. The Battlefield Kiwanis Club of Manassas sponsored a program of Wreaths Across America for the months of October and November. We had a booth at the Fall Jubilee held in Manassas in October where we sold Pork Sandwiches and soft drinks and took donations for Christmas Wreaths to be placed in Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, Virginia. These Wreaths are place on Veterans graves the second Saturday in December to coincide with the Wreath Laying at Arlington National Cemetery....more |
Mount Vernon Club Distributes Free Booksby Bruce Malkin On December 19, 6 members of the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club (MVKC) joined the Creekside Neighborhood Center (CNC) Program Director Blanca Vasquez and her staff to make their Xmas Party even merrier. The MVKC members helped to distribute 2 free books to 70 children by writing the child's name in the books they chose and bagging them for easy carrying home. ...more |
Coastal DE K-Kids Host Successful Pancake Breakfastby Rosemary Cummings The word is getting out. K-Kids from Rehoboth and Lord Baltimore Elementary schools and the Rehoboth Boys and Girls Club were all there. Coastal DE Kiwanis sponsored another Pancake Breakfast at Applebee's with the K-Kids serving the meals. Some kids, like Cruz, Giovanni, John, Bobbi and Brianna had worked before, then others like the Lee brothers, Sirone, Ty and Diana, it was first time....more |
