Governor's Messageby Gov Don Dudey By the time you are reading this article, the holidays will have passed and I hope they were wonderful holidays for each of you. We have so much to be thankful for, and this time of year is a great time to celebrate no matter what your religion or faith. It is also a time to begin working on those resolutions you set for 2010. Losing weight, stop smoking, buying a home, taking a vacation, or whatever. Resolutions are a way for each of us to set goals for ourselves in order to accomplish specific tasks during 2010...more |
Grundy Donates Foodby Rita Rife Over 1500 cans of food Donated! The Grundy Kiwanis Club and the Grundy Key Club of Division 8 held a food drive for the three local food pantries. Local businesses and churches also helped by donating cans and with monetary donations. The monetary donations were distributed equally among the three food banks. Kiwanis members Brandee Owens, chairman and Priscilla Johnson, President, spearheaded the drive. The Grundy Kiwanis and Key Clubs thank all who participated in this project, in giving to others less fortunate we participate in the true meaning of Christmas.

Smithfield Club Distributes Toys and Booksby Karen Foster On December 8, the Smithfield Kiwanis Club distributed toys and books to parents of 300 of Isle of Wight County's most underserved children. K-Kids Deliver Happy Feet Socksby Bruce Malkin The K-Kids is a community service club at Stratford Landing Elementary School. It is sponsored by the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club. On December 4, eight K-Kids visited Paul Spring Retirement Community on Fort Hunt Road, and delivered to all the senior residents that were available a pair of hand-decorated socks, which they call "Happy Feet Socks" because they decorate them by sewing "Ho Ho" on them. Kiwanis Club of St. Mary's County, Key Club, K-Kids, CKI Newsby Glynnis Schmidt Great Mills Key Club support the homeless in Southern Maryland. Key Club members from Great Mills High School collected donations of toiletries and other small gifts to be donated toward the Key Club Division 22 holiday shoebox project. The students filled 4 shoeboxes and took them to the Key Club Division 22 division council meeting in November....more
