Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick

by Dave Maloney

Frederick Municipal Airport Manager, Kevin Daugherty, AAE, recently updated the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick on the status of major improvements being made to the Frederick airport facility. Included are the construction of an airport control tower, and a runway extension in order to accommodate the needs of larger aircraft. Accompanying Daugherty was Josh Russin, Executive Assistant to Frederick Mayor, Randy McClement. Pictured (L to R), club member Bill Muffi presents Daugherty with a child's book as Russin looks on. The book, part of the club's Read Around the World program, is to be donated to the C. Burr Artz Public Library in the name of the Daugherty and the Frederick Municipal Airport.

The Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick recently provided assistance to Hope Alive in Sabillasville, MD. Hope Alive is a non-profit Christian ministry that offers transitional home and support services for women and their children. The Kiwanians spent the day weeding, landscaping, cleaning the flower beds, tilling the playground mulch, and removing and repairing fencing. "We cannot fully express our thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick. They were so pleasant, happy and willing to work," said Missy Miller, Operations Manager. Pictured (l to r) standing are Bob Rankin, Joe Vitanza, Frank Parker, Dave Maloney and David Schmitt. Sitting are Patrick Long, Missy Miller and Peter Brehm.

Sarah McAleavy, Coordinator of Food & Nutrition at the Frederick Community Action Agency Food Bank, recently visited the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick to inform the members of the various programs offered by the Food Bank to assist those in need. Pictured (L to R), McAleavy accepts a $500 donation from Suburban Frederick's fundraising chairman, Joe Vitanza. "We are pleased to contribute to organizations serving the needy," said Vitanza. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to helping children and the less fortunate.
