Colonial
Capital Club Dream Catchers
by Jerry White
At
a recent club meeting Nancy Paschall, executive director
of "Dream Catchers" spoke about their program which
uses horses to help handicapped children. She thanked
our club for its continuing support and emphasized
their need for equestrian equipment. One of our members
contacted her father in Arizona who owns horses and
asked it he had an spare equipment that he could donate
to Dream Catchers. While he didn't have any equipment
to donate, he was so impressed with the program that
he sent a significant check for Dream Catchers. Our
Kiwanian, accompanied by her two children, presented
the check to Dream Catchers at their facility and provided
the children with an extensive tour and description
of the program. The result is that the two children
are now enthusiastic weekly volunteers at Dream Catchers.

Many individuals join Kiwanis clubs specifically because we are an international
organization with a global mission-that lofty goal of changing
the world one child and one community at a time. To this
point, with a few notable exceptions, our Capital District
clubs seem to have focused on local efforts directed toward
helping our own children and communities. This is commendable,
but it does not address the incredible needs of children
worldwide...Accordingly,
our District Committee on International Understanding has
decided to pursue a new approach
to achieving our global mission. We have selected Africa because its needs are great and most of us know extremely
little about this part of the world...
