Grafton Club Installs New Officers

A new leadership team for the Kiwanis Club of Grafton was installed at the October 5th Club meeting. Kiwanis Capital Division 23 Lt. Governor Tim Meyer officiated as new president Dr. Steven Staples was installed along with officers for the term to run October 2010 to September 2011. Other officers installed are: W. Chad Green, president-elect; Sandra Allen, vice president; John King, secretary; Kathy Young, treasurer. Members of the Board of Directors installed are: Mary Boxer, Rob Elsass, Johnny Francum, Linda Meadows and Colin Owens. Outgoing president Tom Carnevale was recognized for his leadership during the past year.
Grafton Kiwanis has more than 40 members who provide service and support to our local community through leadership development programs for children in the schools such as Builders Clubs, Key Clubs and K-Kids. Club members also volunteer as hosts at the Newport News-Williamsburg Airport USO, as readers for local Head-Start classes, as games assistants at Regency senior center and, most recently, by painting at the Boys & Girls Club of Newport News. Other projects include preparing bicycles for the Salvation Army to give away at Christmas and support of various Boy Scout and Girl Scout programs. Club fundraisers, including the well-known fall and spring BBQ and Brunswick Stew sales, support other community youth development projects such as the Appalachian Service Project at St. Luke's Methodist Church and the York County Football (soccer) Club.
Grafton Kiwanis meets each Tuesday at 12:15 pm at Joe & Mimma's Italian Restaurant, 5742 Geo. Washington Memorial Hwy in Grafton. Visitors are welcome. More information is available at www.graftonkiwanis.org
