Charlottesville Club

Charlottesville Makes Interclub Visit to Waynesboro. Four members of the leadership team from the Charlottesville Kiwanis Club made an interclub visit to the lunch meeting of the Waynesboro Club at the Waynesboro Country Club on October 19. Pictured from left are Division 5 Lt Gov Herb Ely, Charlottesville President Jim Hart, Division 5 Immediate Past Lt Gov Kathy Johnson, Charlottesville President-Elect Barb Ritter, Waynesboro President Jennifer Apesa, and Charlottesville Immediate Past President Don Foss. Don delivered a very impressive power point presentation illustrating the success of the Charlottesville Service Leadership Program, which he serves as committee chair. Also, PLG Kathy Johnson presented the Home Club Banner to LTG Herb Ely, where it will be on display in Charlottesville for the next two years.

Charlottesville Raises 300 pounds of Food for Neighbors-4 Neighbors. The Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville organized a four-week food drive aimed at putting a dent in the hunger suffered by area children and youth. Inspired by Western Albemarle High School Key Clubber's award-winning Neighbors-4-Neighbors concept, the Charlottesville Kiwanians sought to bring in food identified by the food bank as in greatest demand and in shortest supply especially for children and youth. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank provided a barrel which stood ready to accept donations at the regular Kiwanis meeting place, the Elk's Lodge, between September 20 and October 18. When all was said and done, 324 pounds of 100% juice, peanut butter, canned fruits, macaroni and cheese, pasta and spaghetti sauce, healthy cereal, and canned soups and stews was picked up by the food bank. Nicole Muller, the Capital District Teenager of the Year, reported that this food provided meals for 253 people, 101 of them children. Pictured is Charlottesville Kiwanian Bill Hall inspecting the contributions.

Charlottesville K-Family Kickball Cookout at Camp Holiday Trails. More than fifty volunteers representing members from all five Key Clubs in Division 5A, CKI members from the University of Virginia, and Charlottesville Kiwanians came together on October 3 for a Sunday afternoon service extravaganza at Camp Holiday Trails, a summer camp for children with special health needs. The afternoon began with a cookout presided over by Charlottesville Service Leadership Committee chair Don Foss, shown at the grill being assisted by Monticello High School Key Club Faculty Advisor Diane Clark. The volunteers were then organized by Fifth Division Key Club Lt Gov Diana Stan of Western Albemarle High School, into four teams of ten players each. While two teams played kick ball, two teams engaged in service work including moving tables, chairs, and lawn furniture used at a CHT function the night before, raking leaves, and performing other tasks provided by staff at Camp Holiday Trails. The teams would then alternate activities until all the tasks were accomplished and the kick ball games were concluded. A beautiful Sunday afternoon was spent in K-Family fellowship while accomplishing a much needed set of tasks for one of the area's most popular children's charities.
