Outstanding
Kiwanis Advisor, Glynnis Schmidt, Honored at
CKI District Convention
by Kelli Hill, President of the CKI Club at St.
Mary's College of Maryland
This past weekend, CKI members from Capital District joined together in Timonium, MD for our annual District Convention. Some clubs brought entire executive boards, others brought their entire club, and only few had Kiwanis Advisors in attendance. The CKI club at St. Mary's College of Maryland has always been lucky to have a Kiwanis Advisor who does more than write checks and sign paperwork.
Glynnis Schmidt, our advisor (shown right with Gov. Tom Ganse) from the Kiwanis Club of St. Mary's County, has played a very active role in helping to train executive board members, complete service projects, and plan and execute events. On Saturday morning, Glynnis was honored with the Outstanding Kiwanis Advisor award but she deserves so much more. On Sunday morning, Glynnis was awarded with the Carthage-Pullman Award. This award is presented to recognize individuals who have contributed unselfishly to the Circle K program and to Circle K members. Their time, efforts, and financial resources have helped provide a quality Circle K experience to many students. Very few of these people solicit recognition for what they have done, but they certainly are deserving of honor. Glynnis has been a great resource to our Circle K Club and our club is so proud that she finally received recognition for all of her hard work.
In an award application our club members stated "Glynnis has not only been an amazing mother to her own son (who she always gets involved in Kiwanis activities) but also to the CKI officers board. She is very organized and is always there when you need her. She is always there making sure that we are planning ahead. Events could be months away but Glynnis is constantly reminding us to work ahead and stay focused. She keeps us on track and gives the club the dedication that it needs to grow. She helps club leaders build many skills such as learning how to write a grant report or shows the officers that leading by example is the best way to lead".
Our club is looking forward to another year of CKI and another year with our devoted mentor, Glynnis Schmidt.
